Job Summary:

The College of Lake County is seeking ESL instructors to assess language skills and create lesson plans to teach non-native speakers to read, write and speak English. They will help participants learn English grammar, pronunciation and conversational skills.

Job Description:

The primary job responsibility of an ESL instructor is to improve the English reading, writing and speaking skills of the employees of local employers for participants of diverse ages and backgrounds. ESL instructors must tailor their assessments and lessons for students whose native languages and English-speaking abilities are varied, and include phrases and vocabulary provided by the employer when possible.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.

  • Computer and instructional technology skills.

  • Certificate and at least one (1) year of experience or three (3) to five (5) years' experience in assessing and teaching adult ESL.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate and/or post-graduate degree in related field.

  • Experience teaching workplace ESL.

Hiring Range: $65.00 - $75.00/hour 

This posting will be used to obtain a pool of qualified candidates. As teaching needs arise, applications will be reviewed for possible interviews. The number of adjunct faculty hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Adjunct faculty hires and assignments are coordinated by the department chairs.
